OLRFC Rugby4Heroes goes global! Supporting Gigatown Porirua

Its a very small planet that we live on these days, thanks to digital technology, e-commerce and social media. And we at Rugby4Heroes have always had a global, as well as local, mindset.

On Twitter this week we chanced across some members of our global rugby family living in the New Zealand city of Porirua – not far from Wellington, on the south end of the North Island. And a beautiful city it is too.

They have their own great rugby club – The Norths and Norths Womens – and have the Fotuali’i family as one of their residents – those of us who support the Black , Green and Gold of Northampton Saints will know that name through their speedy and talented scrum half, Kahn Fotuali’i. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/24644704

The residents of Porirua have a team led by the mayor Nick Leggett (New Zealand’s youngest – go Nick!)  bidding to be New Zealand’s first city to access ultra fast broadband via a competition run by New Zealand Telecoms giant, Chorus. Porirua are competing against many other towns and cities however Porirua has our vote! You can learn more by watching this very short YouTube link featuring the dynamic Mayor and his team. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmMm98fBEEY

(As an aside , we think Nick looks like a rather cool guy for a Mayor and when he finishes his term of office, we will be launching our own campaign to get him to come and run the Mayor’s office in Leamington – we need a shake up LOL!)

So our @rugby4heroes marketing whizz Gaz Nash (@liquidblu_) jumped on his Mac and did a nice friendly poster from the UK rugby family at Old Leamingtonians RFC Rugby4Heroes to our NZ rugby friends !  Please help them win this competition just send them a tweet of support with the hashtag GigatownPorirua! And while you are doing it, send them some lovely rugby banter about next years Rugby World Cup too! Every tweet with this hashtag gets them moving up the league table against the other cities they are competing with for the Gigatown upgrade.

Come on you Old Leamingtonians and @rugby4heroes Twitter followers – lets do our bit to help a community in a great country to provide a better digital broadband service to their residents, and help their young peoples’ education and futures!
